I’m only partway through it, but already finding myself reading slower than usual. Dallas Willard has a way of making familiar truths feel both simpler and more demanding. It isn’t a book I’m trying to finish quickly; it’s one I’m trying to let finish its work in me.
A conversation that stayed with me
As I was thinking about this week’s thread, I remembered a short conversation with David Brooks on attention.
He says that our lives become what we pay attention to. That struck me because attention isn’t merely about concentration—it’s about love. What we continually notice, we slowly become shaped by.
Reading Dallas Willard this week has made me wonder whether discipleship is, in part, the lifelong practice of learning to give our attention to the Kingdom of God amid all the competing voices.
